Egyptian cuisine and some of its recipes date back over 5000 years.
Wall paintings and hand carvings have been discovered on tombs and temples, depicting large feasts and a great variety of foods from all over the world.
Many ancient foods are still eaten in Egyptian households today; peas, beans, cucumbers, dates, and figs being popular fruits and vegetables, with wheat an ancient staple still used to make the national bread called ‘aish’, which is literally the word for life.
Join us for a five course food and drink epic, as we recreate dishes from our diasporic childhoods and explore new ingredients, novel combinations and innovative takes on traditional plates.
The Food of Life will encompass a unique blend of influences forged through a rich history connecting Egypt with its neighbours from the Middle East, Europe and Africa, whilst also weaving together the story of life on earth. The full menu will be disclosed on the day consisting of a rich spread of drinks paired with herbs, roots, meats, grains and fruits of the earth.
Tickets for the supper club also include free entry to the drinks reception on Friday 7 August, however you will still need to RSVP for the latter by emailing events@barbedoun.com
We welcome vegetarians and most dietary requirements but please email events@barbedoun.com with the specifics before booking. All meat is sourced from halal providers and the bar is strictly alcohol-free, so we kindly request that no external drinks are consumed at our events.
About the Collective:
BARBEDOUN is a pop up bar based around alcohol-free alchemy, engineered by a creative diasporic collective. This alternative bar is the start of a bold move towards a new space in food and drink culture, for those looking for something more interesting than mocktails and juice.
Our beverages are inspired by traditional mixology, Temperance classics from the Occident and exuberant sharbats from across the Middle-East, South-Asia and beyond.
Our supper-clubs are based on drinks and broths, with carefully selected plates to accompany your glass.
As a collective we are committed to reinvesting our profits in order to develop sustainable arts and cultural projects, which highlight the experiences of diaspora communities in the U.K.
